There is an event held in December that is called "Clothes Show Live" held in Birmingham NEC in the UK. This show is held in order to display the works of up and coming designers and the fresh talent bringing new ideas and methods to the clothing industry. Clothes Show Live joined forces with the Maybelline Company, a USA makeup brand, to create the "Young Stylist of the Year" award to be presented this year. The Clothes Show Live event is much more than just a fashion show. Though it showcases the young design talent so abundant in the UK, the Clothes Show Live event is also a leader in the cause of banning models who wear a UK size 4 or equivalent US size 0. The belief is that size 0 is simply too small for a healthy body. Clothes Show Live wants to promote the concept that a healthy body is beautiful and that a responsible clothing and fashion industry will take a firm stand against using the size 0 model to promote retailing. This applies to all clothing including white t-shirts, sweaters, dresses, trousers and all high couture.
As anyone who is interested in fashion knows, many models are just too thin to the point of endangering their health. Medical research has reported that few people can achieve a size 0 without creating an unhealthy body. Clothes Show Live wants to use healthy looking models only and so reviewed the performances of over 250 models and dancers.
Clothes Show Live backs up its focus with action. For the second year in a row, the size 0 model was denied permission to participate in the show.
The Clothes Show Live Design Awards given at the show support the efforts of young designers by supporting their ongoing educational efforts. Various ages and skills are eligible to compete. Between the promotion of healthy bodies and the awards, the Clothes Show Live event is a very special display of fashion within the industry. The ongoing emphasis on proving fashion and good health can mix is sure to have an impact on the body image young women develop. This is a growing trend that Clothes Show Live hopes will grow.
