Basketball Player Finds Europe to be More Design Open-Minded

Tuesday 30th of September 2008 09:30:23 PM

Basketball Player Finds Europe to be More Design Open-MindedCameron Bennerman is an ex-North Carolina State University basketball player who decided it was time to create a designer line of clothing. You don’t normally see sports figures so interested in drawing and clothing, but Bennerman is different. He loves to draw and loves fashion so the two seemed to be the perfect mix.

Bennerman went to Europe to play basketball after he left North Carolina State University. While there he attended fashion shows in Italy and Spain, and that’s when he decided to try his hand at designing clothes. He was quoted as saying, "They're risk-takers over there," he says. "A lot of things that we're afraid to do as a culture as Americans, the Italians and the Spaniards aren't afraid to step out and do different things with their clothes.”

He’s back in the USA living in Greensboro and has begun to add his drawings to sweatshirts, t-shirts and even hats. The design line is called Likuid Nation and he prides himself on developing a risk-taking line of clothing. He plans on selling his creations online and will offer a selection of shirts in a catalogue. He will also be selling parts of this collection in retail stores. On top of his fashion line, Bennerman will continue playing basketball.

"Basketball may always be my first true love," he says. "But you can't play basketball all of your life." Most celebrity sports players end up investing their money in more traditional things such as real estate, but Bennerman wanted to pursue his passions for drawing and fashion.

One of the great features of fashion is there is always room for new talent. The American and European influences on his designs are sure to produce many interesting collections.
