From T-Shirts to elegant evening gowns, the clothing industry in the UK continues to expand its presence in the worldwide fashion industry. Emerging designer talents, eco-friendly leadership, and numerous fashion shows have led to a greater awareness of the need to combine forces and encourage the development of new businesses and opportunities for in the UK.As a result, the British Fashion Council (BFC) held an event at 10 Downing Street to announce the 25th anniversary celebration plans for 2009. Giving credence to the importance and influence of the BFC, the event was attended by people representing government, business and fashion.
BFC Chairman Mr Tillman said, “The BFC Fashion Fund is set to become the single most significant thing to hit British design in my lifetime. This will allow us to make a real difference to exciting businesses, assisting them to grow and develop here.” The development and growth of the fashion industry will benefit all clothing firms including those selling items such as wholesale t-shirts. The impact of this fund will not just affect high couture.
The BFC will be sponsoring a fashion industry report next year that will document the impact of fashion design and sales on the UK economy. The BFC believes it is critically important to encourage young designers who also learn how to manage profitable businesses. The BFC will be working with businesses and colleges to insure the designers have access to the information and hands-on experience needed to succeed.
As the BFC takes a more active role as an industry leader, it is expected to become a resource for those aspiring to enter the fashion business. The 25-year celebration next year will celebrate the British Fashion Council, London Fashion Week and the Designer of the Year Award, all of which have been in existence for 25 years.
