There is now an eco-friendly cashmere that has been produced using ethical standards. The Pure company, the largest UK cashmere retailer, has produced this new cashmere material which is 100% sustainable. The company was determined to address a global crisis which is the decimation of Mongolian grasslands. This is a campaign started in 2003 with the awareness of the impact of cashmere production on the environment in China. The goal was to produce the 100% sustainable cashmere by December 2009 which means the company has met its goal early. The Pure company cashmere collection, including sweaters, has many different styles such as chunky, classic and silky weaves. The new eco-friendly clothing designs have been called stunning and innovative. The winter clothing line includes blouses, embroidered shirts, skirts and wool trousers.
To meet their goal of producing eco-friendly cashmere by the end of 2009, the Pure company has been working with their associates in Mongolia. The Pure company established research programmes with the goal of creating the eco-friendly cashmere without giving up quality. The result is cashmere that is now produced by goats that are raised on farms or indoors. This means the herders will not have to let their goats destroy natural grasslands while seeking feed.
Cashmere innovations have also been announced by the Scottish firm of Peter Scott. The company has created machine washable cashmere making their cashmere clothing line practical without losing any styling. The Peter Scott cashmere collection is called Total Easy Care Cashmere.
Managing Director, Ken Pasternak, said, “We are extremely proud of this break-through, which is something the company has been working on for some time. It has been an on-going mission of ours to create a cashmere garment that combines not only luxury and style but is also practical.”
