New York Fashion Week Unveils Spring Clothing

If you enjoy fashion, it’s always exciting to see designers unveil their new creations at the fashion shows. This week the clothing industry news is focused on the New York Fashion Week. There are 8 acres of new fashions being displayed and the retailers and consumers are watching closely. The clothing and fashion industry is particularly attentive this year, because declining economies in many countries have led to less consumer spending on clothing other than basics like trousers and polo shirts.

The most notable fashions so far have revealed an eclectic mixture of resort styling and youthful flashback. The fashions are casual and colourful. So far the designers which have held shows include BCBG, R & Bone, Elie Tahari and Perry Ellis to name just a few. All together over a hundred fashion shows will be held throughout the week.

So what does spring 2009 fashion hold for the fashion shopper? BCBG has created casual and quiet elegance in pants and chemise dresses. The jumpsuit is back with a halter top. Also back is the 1960s and 1970s in the Rag & Bone collection. The fashions were designed after the clothes the working class wore during those decades. That means the styles include a lot of style mixing such as leather and floral prints.

The Elie Tahari collection continued the tropical floral print theme. But this collection was focused on the fashionable couple enjoying a vacation. The cocktail dresses could have doubled as bathing suit cover-ups. The men’s fashions are equally comfortable. The Perry Ellis collection revealed men’s clothing that included casual hoodie sweaters, leisure jackets and shorts.

There were plenty of other world class designers unveiling their fashions. The New York Fashion Week injects excitement into the clothing and footwear industry with its varied and interesting collections. It has yet to be seen whether it’s enough excitement to create a rebound in clothing retail sales.
