The New York Fashion Week is a much anticipated event each year and is held in New York City in Bryant Park. Covering over 8 acres, the fashion show is a highly anticipated show held in various tents set up just for this event. This year the designers chose to concentrate on clothing which reminds people of less stressful times such as vacations or time at the beach. As designer Narciso Rodriguez told the Associated Press, "When the economy is so bad and with the horrible things happening all around the world, one gets inspired to create a certain kind of beauty."Nothing makes people think more about relaxing days then tropical prints and beach inspired wear. The first 2009 fashions to be unveiled were meant to make people feel less stressful as they remembered warm sunny days at tropical resorts in places far away from the stresses of daily living. Mr. Rodriguez actually called his fashion an "anti-stress" collection.
One of the main reasons for designing clothes in colorful styles is to convince customers to return to retail stores and begin spending money again. The colourful t-shirts, leisure suits, and loose thrown on clothing entice fashion customers with their vibrancy. The models in the show strutted on the catwalks and stages looking as if they were enjoying a weekend at a beach resort. The designers also hope the weak US dollar will attract overseas buyers to spend their money on the fashion collections. With sagging economies around the world, one of the first sectors to feel the pinch is clothing.
The New York Fashion Show is sponsored by a major corporation and this year it is the Mercedes Benz Fashion Show. The show is held twice a year in February and September. The Fall show going on right now unveils the Spring 2009 fashion. This show there will be over 100 fashion shows ongoing for 8 days.
