The internet has been a real boon for many clothing and footwear retailers. Nordstrom is a good example. The Nordstrom online sales are literally booming even while other retailers are reporting sales declines around the world due to poor economic conditions. Nordstrom has reported their online sales of all clothing and footwear has increased by a healthy 15% for the second quarter of 2008 when compared to the second quarter of 2007.Nordstrom sells a wide variety of clothing from expensive dresses to trendy tees. The company expects to exceed $1 billion in total company online sales in the near future. Currently online sales account for 10% of total sales but this figure is expected to grow steadily over the coming months.
Nordstrom has developed a multi-channel marketing strategy which caters to customers searching for particular items. Consumers can shop online and then request to pick the online order up at a local Nordstrom store on the same day. This speeds up delivery and saves the cost of shipping. The company is also improving the ability to ship items from stores to consumers shopping online when the items are not available in the shipping centers.
The aggressive multi-channel marketing strategy is very successful. The company has not seen the same level of overall sales declines in the second quarter of 2008 that similar clothing retailers have experienced. The company continues to report a profit and part of the reason is the popularity of the discount clearance stores it operates called the Nordstrom Rack whear you can find dresses, trousers, shirts, t-shirts, polo shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts to name just a few items.
Nordstrom clothing is higher end clothing that is stylish and popular. There are 150 stores in 28 states with plans for adding more stores. The company began in Seattle and has proven to be a successful clothing retailer.
