Newest Fashions Unveiled at Unique “Model for a Day” Event

Monday 01st of September 2008 02:13:37 PM

Newest Fashions Unveiled at Unique “Model for a Day” EventDuring the London Fashion Week events, one stood out from among the rest as being especially fun and unique. The Advertiser’s “Model for a Day” competition was held on Main Street at the Coatbridge Clothes Show. The readers of the Advertiser had voted for the children who participated in the event as models. It was a chance to showcase the most recent fashion lines sold by local retailers and worn by real people and not just professional models.

In addition to the children’s fashion show, ten professional models also strutted the stages in the newest fashions wearing everything from formal wear to t-shirts. They also modeled shoes and jewellery. The event was planned and choreographed by Fiona Best. Best works for Catwalk Productions which produces “cutting edge fashion presentations”. The show attracted hundreds of shoppers and viewers giving the people from the street a chance to see a real fashion show displaying their favorite lines of clothing.

It was reported by the Coatbridge Advertiser that the retailers who participated in the show included “Asda George, Dorothy Perkins, Peacocks, Matalan, Brantano Footwear, Turret, Tesco F&F, Vogue, M & Co, Cameron Jewellers, Brides One Stop Shop, Cradle Care, Internacionale, New Look and Next“. These kinds of fashion events are becoming more and more popular as even high couture focuses on what the people “on the streets” are really wearing every day. The trend in fashion is to incorporate the individual styles of shoppers into their fashion lines.

This was a first event for Coatbridge, but future events are planned. The show attracted people from across Lanarkshire. The local students enrolled in the Coatbridge College hairdressing and make-up artistry program were given a chance to practice what they have learned on the fashion models. An event such as this one is a long way from the glitzy catwalk productions in the high fashion district, but is just as effective in bringing fashion into the UK home.
