Wearing T-Shirts on Holiday in the UK

Friday 08th of August 2008 02:50:43 PM

Wearing T-Shirts on Holiday in the UKThe UK fashion industry is excited which is amazing when you consider this particular business area often looks to other countries for fashion direction. But the designers are realizing they have plenty of bold retail opportunities when it comes to accommodating the local residents pretending they are on holiday and the real tourists coming to see the Royals. The reason is the revival of the British resort as a chic and suddenly cool place to go.

The British resort appeared to be dying a slow death, but there have been lots of celebrity and Royal sightings recently. The media loves to show the rich and famous lounging on a British beach. If you look closely at the pictures though, you will also see plenty of not-so-famous visitors also soaking up their share of the sun. Fortunately the sun doesn't care who it shines on. If you peer even closer at the pictures, you will also see plenty of t-shirts.

A British summer holiday is a retailing challenge. It can be sunny and warm or drizzly and nippy. This makes it difficult for those trying to pack enough clothes without requiring a room-sized suitcase. It also creates a great opportunity for clothing retailers to sell a variety of clothes year round. The answer to the problem of how to dress appropriately lies in layering options.

This is where T-Shirts become the most valuable clothing item for people on holiday and retailers. The t-shirt makes a perfect layer in a system of robust layering. With stripes the rage again, a plain t-shirt underneath a striped shirt or sweater is the height of fashion. In fact, in Britain the soft and earthy shades work seem to work the best.

T-shirts can be used for layering and work with all trouser lengths too including the holiday 7/8th length that are really ankle trousers which have been cropped to below the knee. They are great with modern floral skirts, frayed denim, and just about anything else you care to wear except maybe an evening gown (though if you watch the celebrities on awards night there is always a skimpy t-shirt matched with diamond studded skirts).

So go ahead and pack your holiday with lots of thin layered t-shirts and you'll be ready for almost anything you plan on doing. You'll be happy and so will the retailers.
