Sometimes big businesses in the fashion world can help charities. Take for instance, Laura Ashley. Laura Ashley has created a limited edition daffodil T-shirt that will go on sale later this week. The T-Shirts will cost 25 pounds each and about 4 pounds from every sale will benefit the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity. The Marie Curie Cancer Care provides free nursing care in the home of terminally ill patients who are dying from cancer and other illnesses. The money raised by the sale of Laura Ashley’s limited edition daffodil T-Shirts will go to providing more nursing care in the patient’s own home.
This fundraiser coincides with Marie Curie’s 60th year of providing nursing care in the UK. The daffodil on the shirts is the symbol of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Laura Ashley supports the charity in other ways as well. Currently it is conducting a campaign to collect old or broken jewellery. From May 1 – July 31, 2008 people can bring their unwanted jewellery to any Marie Curie Cancer Care facility or Laura Ashley store. They can also mail it to Freepost which is free of charge.
The money earned from the broken and unwanted jewellery will be given to the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity and that, together with the sale of the limited edition daffodil T-Shirts, will give comfort and hope to many patients and their families during incredibly difficult times. Marie Curie Cancer Care never charges for their services. In 2007 – 2008 the charity spend more than 115 million pounds in its quest to provide comfort to those with terminal illnesses. They operate across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. As much as 70% of their operating budget is made possible through the thought and generosity of shops such as Laura Ashley.
