Barbour is a renowned British clothing company that has been in
business for over a century. The fourth generation of Barbours is now
running the company that began as J Barbour and Sons in 1894 in South
Shields. The company sold many different items of clothing then as it
does now.
Although, the company has a rich and successful history it is always looking to improve its selection and its market share. To that end, it has recently hired five new members to join its design team. These five members have been hired to help make Barbour a lifestyle brand. They will be responsible for increasing the company’s designs of knitwear, T-Shirts and trousers.
The new members of the design team include 3 senior members: Alan Scott, Sue Smedley Roberts and, Sara Orell. Ms. Smedley Roberts and Ms. Orell will be design and development managers. Ms. Smedley Roberts will be responsible for the technical aspects of Barbour’s sporting collection, shirts, hats and footwear and Ms. Orell will be responsible for knits and accessories. Alan Scott will come on board as a consultant for Barbour’s line of trousers. In the past he has been a design director for Donna Karan.
The team will also include two junior designers, Chickaira Morrell and Liz Okaroh. Ms. Morrell has been hired to work with senior designer Andrea Freeman in the women’s wear division and Ms. Okaroh will work with Gary Janes in the junior menswear department.
According to Barbour managing director Steve Buck the new lines of knits, wovens, T-Shirts and trousers are not expected to make a big impact on company sales until Autumn 2009. In the meantime the company invites customers to look at the exciting merchandise it has for sale now and it invites stores to contact them about carrying the expanded Barbour line in the future.
