The year second year product design students at the Central St.
Martins College of Art and Design entered a competition to create
exciting images of London to put on
T-Shirts
that will appeal to UK citizens, London natives and tourists. They were
being designed to be sold at Glorious Britain shops at London’s
Heathrow Airport. The contest is being run by Glorious Britain,
Transport for London at the Central St. Martins College of Art and
Design.
The judging panel was so impressed with the students’ work that they could not decide on one design. Instead, they chose two winners and two runners up for the contest.
This is what representatives of Glorious Britain and Transport for London had to say about the contest:
Glorious Britain Strategic Marketing Controller Ben Deller said: “We are delighted to be involved with this initiative. Glorious Britain gift shops are renowned for stocking all that is good about Britain and we are sure that the winning T-shirt designs will prove to be a great success with our travelling customers.”
TfL Brand Manager Saskia Boersma added: “The competition provided an opportunity for talented young artists to make their mark by designing a unique souvenir T-shirt that will be on sale to the public; a great start for anyone’s career in design. We are particularly proud of our design heritage here at TfL and look forward to adding this new piece of artwork to our design history for generations to enjoy.”
The four winning designs featured different images of London. One of the winning Tees featured a black and white design with key London icons and the other shirt focused on Transport for London posters from the 1930s. As for the runner ups, one design had the London Underground logo set against the London skyline and the other featured characters making their way around London on the different types of transportation. All 4 designs reflect well on our capital city.
