Something new and exciting is on the horizon beyond the standard jeans and classic clothing usually associated with the company. On May 13, 2008 the company is set to announce its limited Artists Edition T-Shirts which will be available in the Gap’s UK stores and on the Gap’s website. The T-Shirts are said to be designed by leading artists such as Chuck Close, Marilyn Minter and others. They each have a unique design that will create some publicity for the company.
So, what’s the draw? Why would the Gap create limited edition clothing? The answer is to bring in new and existing customers who will hopefully enjoy the unique designs of the limited Artists Edition and pick up a few other pieces of clothing while they are shopping.
Earlier this year, the Gap unveiled other limited edition collections. In April, the Gap Editions White Shirts were unveiled. This is the second year in a row that this line has been available in Limited Editions and it is very popular. It is a fun take on the classic white shirt.
The draw of the Gap’s limited editions is that the products are takes on classic styles beloved by Gap customers. Yet, they have a little something extra. A little something that makes wearing the products from those lines different and exciting. The Artists Edition has the additional draw of being designed by well known artists.
As with most Gap limited editions, the Artists Edition T-Shirts are expected to be popular. The first day of exciting clothing debuts often bring long queues. So, pay attention to the debut next week and see what you think. You may just find that new shirt that you will enjoy wearing all summer long and you may pick up additional pieces of clothing for your summer wardrobe as well.
