T-shirt contests are great for students. It helps them learn about issues and gives them a creative outlet. It also helps motivate students to make a difference in the world especially when the message of the shirt influences others to take steps in becoming healthier and improving the environment around them. The month of April in the United States is Cancer Control Month. This month serves to remind people there are some steps they can take to lessen the risk of cancer. The American Cancer Society is the force behind many of the campaigns run during the month. One of the campaigns this year is a contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
The Staten Island Advance online reports the American Cancer Society is holding this contest to make people aware of second hand smoke. Second hand smoke can affect others in much of the same way smokers are affected. Another focus of the contest is to make people aware of how smoke free environments are the best way to cut down on the influence smokers have on non-smokers.
Students who would like to enter the contest have to come up with an image and slogan for the shirt that speaks about the focus of the contest. To learn more about the contest see the article at http://www.silive.com/living/advance/index.ssf?/base/living/1207565126314160.xml&coll=1.
