T-shirts
can say so much and affect the people around you in so many ways. West Side Today reports that the students and organizers of the Clothesline Project hope their event helps people release some of the heartache, frustrations and even secrecy of their past abuse. The Mount Saint Mary's College in the United States holds this very special event every year to help people become aware of the violence that affect woman every day. Clothesline Project hangs up lines so students can create t-shirts to hang for all to see. A tent is available with blank t-shirts in different colours. Each colour signifies a different violent act towards a woman; the white t-shirt is for victims who died, the red t-shirt is for rape survivors, yellow is for domestic violence and blue shirts are for those affected by childhood sexual abuse. Provided art supplies allow people to write a statement on each shirt to express how they feel and send a message. Some of the phrases say, "I survived" "I trusted you!!!" "You know what happened and now I am breaking the silence." Counsellors are available during the event in case some of the participants need to discuss what happened and find support.
