Fairtrade Fortnight Gains Popularity: Oxfam SupportsAn article by ThisisExeter.co.uk discusses the many benefits of Fairtrade Fortnight and Oxfam who has jumped on board supporting this good cause. The Fairtrade organisation promises that all merchandise made is from a cotton growing location where farmers receive fair wages for their labour. The popularity of Fairtrade increased due to an earlier discovery of problems with sweatshops. Sweatshops are factories in which exploit their workers. Problems include children working for little or no compensation. Employees work in unhealthy and dangerous work settings for long hours each day. This has caused illness and injury for many with no support from the company.

Companies have fought back on sweatshops and have started taking their business elsewhere, like the Fairtrade Fortnight. This ensures the manufacturing of merchandise is fair, and in healthy and safe work settings. In addition, workers are paid for the work that they do. Fairtrade Fortnight helps with providing ethical t-shirts, trousers, chinos, accessories and jewellery.

Oxfam, located on South Street in Exeter sells jewellery and accessories from Fairtrade. Oxfam is continuing their transition and has plans to convert 20 million of their store items to Fairtrade. Customers love these accessories and sales are good. People understand that when they buy these items that they are also contributing to a good cause. It decreases any guilt of spending money because they know they are helping those less fortunate in other parts of the world.

If you would like to find Fairtrade clothing and accessories for your wardrobe besides Oxfam; visit Next, Sainsbury's, Topshop, Monsoon, Accessorize, Debenhams, and Tesco stores throughout the UK.
