Judgment on Fruit of the Loom 42.5 Million USD

Monday 14th of January 2008 12:31:50 AM

Judgment on Fruit of the Loom 42.5 Million USDEarthTimes.org reports that in 2005, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in the United States sued Fruit of the Loom because of contamination of 4 US factory locations. The company went bankrupt at these four locations in 1999. These locations included St. Louis, Michigan, Bergan County, New Jersey, Toon, Tennessee and Brechenridge, Michigan.

Just recently the justice department took over this case from the US EPA and have ruled that Fruit of the Loom must pay a total of 42.5 million USD to efforts in cleaning up these factory sites. St. Louis, Michigan, New Jersey and Tennessee will receive 12.5 million USD and Brechenridge, Michigan will receive 2.1 million USD. Brechenridge, Michigan received the most due to the largest amount of pollution at that site.

Fruit of the Loom is an underwear and t-shirt manufacturer which is well known across the world. In 1999, many of their sites closed because of bankruptcy. These were turbulent times for Fruit of the Loom. The company has since gotten back on its feet but has now hit news everywhere because of this large court ruling.
