Extra T-Shirts Given to Gandia Refuge

Friday 14th of December 2007 09:19:52 PM

Extra T-Shirts Given to Gandia RefugeEvery year Race For Life runs a fundraiser to raise money for charities and organisations to help the fight against Cancer. This year the fundraiser run was to help support the Cancer Support Group (MABS) and 16,500 euros were donated from more than 600 people that took part in the run.

The number of people who participated in the event was much lower than what was anticipated and because of this there were many extra t-shirts that were not used. Every participant received a Race For Life t-shirt. The fundraiser group manufactured more t-shirts than they were able to give away. Instead of destroying these unused t-shirts, they were donated to another cause, the homeless men’s refuge located in Gandia.

Every bit helps for charity but the amount that the fundraiser was able to donate this year was much less than what was raised in previous years. Last year, the fundraiser was able to raise 12,600 euros from half the people who took part in the run. Teresa Kirkby who is in charge of the event is making it a point to get the fundraiser back on its feet and increase the amount for donation in the coming year. She will be working hard on promoting to get people involved and hopefully get other locations to join in and hold their own runs.
