Prison guards in the state of Texas in the United States are getting a more comfortable and less restricting uniform change. These prison guards who have been accustomed to wearing long sleeve gray shirts underneath their bullet proof vests will be getting a new short sleeve shirt starting in 2008. These new dark blue short-sleeve polo shirts
will allow more comfort ability underneath the bulky bulletproof vest that they must wear during activities at the prison. The new lightweight polo shirts which will continue to give the prison guards the professionalism look they receive from the long sleeve alternative. The short sleeve of the polo shirts will provide the prison guards with something that isn’t as warm as the long sleeves t-shirts which is an improvement since the vests can be extremely warm especially during a lot of movement.
The biggest difference with the new uniform polo shirts is that the shirts will not carry slashes indicating experience in the prison system. Some of the prison guards who have worked for many years are not happy about this change. The prisoners know what the slashes mean and will show those with more slashes more respect which makes the life of the prison guard much easier.
The dark blue polo shirts will be paired with two styles of gray pants for the prison guards to choose from. The new uniforms will start to be manufactured beginning the first month of the New Year and the guard’s old uniforms will be cycled out for the next two years. These changes in uniform are strictly for the state of Texas but give some of the other prisons around the world something to think about.
