United States Airmen of McChord Air Force Base recently sold T-Shirts, Sweatshirts, mugs and caps to raise money for children's charities. The airmen were able to raise $10,000 over a few years. The T-Shirts, Sweatshirts, mugs and caps all were printed with 'Operation Deep Freeze'. Not only are these airmen risking their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan they have also been flying cargo to Antartica. During August through March, reserved airmen fly into frozen flight zones to replenish supplies for research scientists at McMurdo Station. One of the advantages of them going during this time is that while it's winter in most parts of the US, it is springtime in the southern hemisphere.
The charitable contributions are made because of the hospitality that New Zealand provides these airmen at their stop offs on the way to Antartica. The crew feels that they need to give back to the people of Christchurch, New Zealand for everything they do for the McChord Air Force Base. The donations will be able to help children who are suffering and need financial assistance.
