Multiple Sclerosis affects over 2.5 million people throughout the world. It's a disease that affects people in different ways. While some become paralyzed, others experience intense pain in various areas on their bodies. Even though there are treatments, no cure has been found yet. After Robin Maxwell, from Charlottesville, Virginia, USA discovered she had MS, she visited actor Kevin Bacon's charity website, SixDegrees.org and signed herself up to raise money for research. Her online campaign was a success and she managed to raise US$18,000 for her charity and won an additional US$10,000 for her efforts. Now, she is selling T-Shirts to raise even more for MS research. I knew that if I pictured myself as being sick, it would affect my family, children, husband, so I decided I was in 'Perfect Health' and monogrammed that on some of my clothes to help me picture it. Fundraising and activism has brought in so much joy. ... I can be a part of what's going to make the situation better, not just for me, but for so many people," said Maxwell.
Maxwell managed to raise so much money in a short amount of time that she caught the attention of Kevin Bacon, who has supported her in raising more for MS. "When we first launched the site, the six people who had the most donations ... I matched $10,000 each to the charity that they were supporting. She's [Maxwell] got that kind of energy. And she's got that kind of fight. I think that's why she won. She's not lying down without a fight. She's a beautiful warrior," said Bacon.
