New T-Shirt Detects Wi-Fi Signals

Monday 08th of October 2007 11:26:01 PM

New T-Shirt Detects Wi-Fi SignalsThere are many new T-Shirts on the market these days that use technology as self-expression. Shirts that contain anti-microbial properties, shirts that have website barcode designs that can be read by cell phones, and now T-Shirts that can pick up Wi-Fi signals and make wearing the shirts more aware of the signal strength are just some of the latest designs available online and in stores.

The new Wi-Fi signal shirt, designed by ThinkGeek, is able to show the signal strength of 802.11b or 802.11g signals. The shirt, which is powered by a small battery sewn in the back, displays the signal strength using a Wi-Fi signal tower design on the front of the shirt. But even this new shirt has its limits as it cannot tell the difference between secure and free signals.

"Finally you can get the attention you deserve as others bow to you as their reverential Wi-Fi god, while geeky chicks swoon at your presence. You can thank us later," according to a statement from ThinkGeek.

Because there are more and more T-Shirts being sold online, creating unique designs that are also interactive seems to be the latest trend. While the shirts will be able to tell people where outdoor 'hot spots' are located, which is useful when visiting a new place, the shirts are basic in their design.
