As clothing prices continue to rise, more people are turning to vintage clothing shops because of lower prices, better quality garments, and as a way to showcase their individuality. Vintage T-Shirts that feature old television and music groups are just as popular with those who are old enough to remember these times and those who have only heard about them. “They are cheaper, cooler and sturdier than anything out there," said vintage clothing shopper Minh Chiev, who lives in New York City, USA, but who buys clothing at local Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA vintage shops when visiting his family.Even though many clothing designers and manufacturers offer clothing with a vintage feel, the T-Shirts they sell are much more expensive than those found in a used clothing store. While new shirts may be available in more sizes and styles, older shirts have a story to tell and are available in designs that are much less common.
“I often refer back to secondhand shops for authentic visual targets to try and replicate the 'worn vintage look' using modern technology," said said Hiam Hindi, a San Francisco designer.
While clothing from many different eras is sought after by those looking for a bargain and unique pieces to add to their wardrobes, T-Shirts and other clothing from the 1970’s is the most sought after at the moment. This could be because of the movies like ‘The Transformers’ or because this clothing tends to be in the best condition.
Whether this trend will continue or not remains to be seen, but many in the vintage clothing business are making a profit selling a little bit of history to those who appreciate it.
