Zellweger Chosen Cancer Awareness Ambassador for Saks Fifth Avenue

Tuesday 04th of September 2007 05:23:30 AM

Zellweger Chosen Cancer Awareness Ambassador for Saks Fifth AvenueEach year, retailer Saks Fifth Avenue chooses an ambassador to lead the efforts in bringing awareness of breast cancer research to the public. This year’s ambassador will be award-winning actor, Renee Zellweger. “I became involved with several women's cancer charities and research organisations after one of my best friends was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000. She received some of the most progressive treatments available today. I know first hand the importance supporting their commitment,” said Zellweger.

In order to bring more awareness of this disease, commemorative pink T-Shirts will be created by Juicy Couture and sold in Saks Fifth Avenue stores in order to raise money for research and charity groups helping women all over the world. This is the seventh year in a row that the retailer has sponsored this event.

In October, ‘Key for the Cure 2007’ campaign will begin in a Saks Fifth Avenue store located in Dubai. “One of our main goals this year is to target the local Arab community - which is very important. Unfortunately, breast or reproductive cancer among Arab women is still considered a shameful illness and many of them feel unable to talk about it openly. Creating awareness of the disease through a campaign that uses fashion as a tool for getting the heart of the message out there, is extremely important,” said Carla Daaboul, head of marketing for Saks Fifth Avenue in Dubai.

Over the years, Saks Fifth Avenue has raised over 23 million internationally and hopes to continue in order to raise even more money and awareness for breast cancer.
