Perry Ellis Going Green

Friday 31st of August 2007 08:30:25 PM

Perry Ellis Going GreenLike many other clothing companies, Perry Ellis will launch a new line of environmentally friendly clothing next month in order to stay competitive in certain markets. The new line will feature Polo Shirts and pants that are made from organic cotton.

“The fashion business is all about being first with a trend. And we really believe that the number of educated, high-income people who are willing to pay more for ecologically correct garments is growing. Education is going to change everything. More people will learn, for example, that it can take three pounds of pesticide to produce one T-shirt, and this knowledge might make them more willing to pay for organic cotton. And that, in turn, will give growers an incentive to produce more, which will bring the price down,” said Perry Ellis’ chairman, George Feldenkreis.

Even though Felderkreis has said in the past that consumers do not want to pay extra for clothing made of natural materials, Perry Ellis will be competing the this new market nontheless.

Making T-Shirts and other clothing using organic materials is not the only way to improve the environment. According to Felderkreis, shipping shirts using materials other than tissue paper, and making labels from recycled materials, help reduce the amount of materials wasted during production and post-production.
