Clothing Line Celebrates many Heritages

For clothing designer Winston Jack, designing his new clothing line ‘Cool Heritage’ means more than creating T-Shirts and other items for men and women, it is also a celebration of different cultures. “Your colour is your heritage. It encompasses all nations. When you look at the Color Heritage Collection you will notice the heritage themes and motifs. You will see the Caribbean, reggae, world music, as well as the American influence. It’s a cultural, conscious clothing line. Also, the red, green and gold colour combination is very popular and will always be a staple colour palate within the line,” said Haile M WoldeAmlak, a representative for ‘Cool Heritage’.

Winston, who moved to the US from Trinidad at an early age, began his design career in screen printing. After showing off his designs at the National Association of Men’s Sportwear Buyers, he was hired by US East Sportswear Company and eventually by Rocawear. Winston has helped dressed many famous musicians and performers such as rapper Jay Z.

Launching his own clothing line has been his dream for the past eight years. ‘Cool Heritage’ features Polo Shirts, denim, T-Shirts, and accessories for women that will be released later in the year. For now, the clothing will be sold in specific stores. “We make the clothes exclusive to these outlets to avoid knock-offs. Instead of taking it off the streets and unknowingly getting inferior quality materials, you can go to these stores to get the real deal,” said WoldeAmlak.

The clothing is currently available in Trinidad and Tobago, and select US markets with the hopes of expanding further into the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan.
