After discovering that she wasn’t the only one holding on to old T-Shirts that no longer fit, Aly Murawski, who lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA decided to collect all the old shirts she and her sisters had and collect shirts from fellow members of the youth soccer association, dye them, and donate them to those who are less fortunate. So far, Murawski has collected over fifty shirts that she plans to send to children who cannot afford team T-Shirts and others who need them. “We have so many T-Shirts in the house that we do nothing with. I’ve never done anything like this. It’s been really interesting talking to people who do mission work,” said Murawski, who has been in contact with different mission groups in countries like Haiti and Nigeria.
Mike Southard, Murawski’s coach, thought the idea was a good one and agreed to let her setup a collection site during a recent championship game. Southard, who owns a sporting goods store and who donates the shirts each year to those playing in the tournament is pleased that his gift can be used for help others. “I thought it was a fantastic idea. You can donate one pair of shoes to help one kid or you can donate a whole set of uniforms and help a whole group of kids,” said Southard.
Since her last collection effort yielded so many T-Shirts, she is planning to collect other shirts during the season in an effort to those in need.
