Ink Options for Inkjet Printers

Saturday 21st of July 2007 04:18:08 AM

Ink Options for Inkjet PrintersDigital printing has changed the way that many who print T-Shirts and other items transfer images. This type of printing has made it much easier for many small companies keep up with the demand for quality printed materials. There are two types of digital printing machines that can be used in order to print images, inkjet printers and direct-to-garment printers. Both have distinct advantages over traditional screen printing practices.

For those who are new to digital printing, but who want to try it out for themselves, investing in an inkjet printer is less expensive than a direct-to-garment printer. After the image is printed onto transfer paper, it can be placed into a heat press which transfers to image to T-Shirts and other clothing. Depending on the fabric, there are different types of ink that is used so the colour and image remain clear and crisp even after many washings.

Dye sublimation inks are used when printing mugs, or plaques. The image is printed onto a transfer sheet and is transferred through heat and moisture to the item. While this process was not rated very highly by t-shirt printer and other garment decorators, new inks have been developed that allow the process to be much easier to handle. Another type of ink made from dyes and pigments is used on t-shirts and other clothing because of its ability to stick to the clothing for a long period of time. A combination of these two inks is also available and can be used on both promotional and clothing items.
