Growing Market for Women's Golf Apparel

Wednesday 04th of July 2007 10:42:59 PM

Growing Market for Women's Golf ApparelAs more women take up the game of golf, there has been a demand for more wardrobe choices. Since many golf courses have strict wardrobe rules such as wearing skirts and Polo Shirts when playing the game, golf clothing designers have been designing more flattering styles for women based on men's clothing. Women golfers are looking for outfits they can wear on the course and off, so comfortable clothing that looks great all day is a must.

"I am a golfer since I was little. As I grew older I found golf is enjoyable as a social sport. When I'd play with my guy friends, I'd look down at what I was wearing and looked at what they were wearing — and they really weren't much different. I knew I wasn't alone in feeling this way," said golf wear designer Kate Sutton. In order to give women more choices on the golf course, many designers have introduced polo dresses, casual shorts, and colourful patterned shirts that fit well into many women's wardrobes.

Many items are also safe for the wearer by protecting them from the sun because they are made of light weight fabrics that contain and SPF of 50.

Most women's golf clothing can be found in pro shops. While men are looking specifically for golf shirts to wear on the course, women are looking for jackets, shirts, and other items they can wear all day long. "The courses are realising that they have a captive audience when women walk into a pro shop. If they walk in and see something that appeals to them, they'll go to it — and women can shop wherever they are, whenever they're there," said designer Linda Hipp.
