American Apparel Upgrades Using Microsoft Technology

Wednesday 20th of June 2007 04:38:38 PM

American Apparel Upgrades Using Microsoft TechnologyT-shirt manufacturer American Apparel is the largest US based company that produces clothing without relying on outsourcing. The company has an 800,000 square foot facility in Los Angeles, California that cuts out patterns and sews fabric to create full lines of men's, women's, children's, and pet clothing. With 14 distributors and over one hundred retail locations worldwide, the company was in need of an upgrade to its manufacturing and communication software in order to remain competitive with companies who outsource parts of their manufacturing to other countries.

American Apparel decided to use Microsoft Dynamics AX provided by Sunrise Technologies, which is owned by Microsoft.

“We chose Dynamics AX over several other ERP systems for its flexibility, scalability, and wide breadth of functionality. We liked the roadmap presented to us by Microsoft as well as their official support of partners devoted to providing industry specific solutions. The team at Sunrise Technologies showed deep industry knowledge and was always willing to back up their promises with detailed demonstrations, creating confidence and enthusiasm in our users. We believe that AX will be a cost effective platform to further streamline our business and support future growth," said America Apparel’s IT Director, Jeff Kolb.

The company is also concerned with providing an environmentally friendly workplace that is safe for employees. American Apparel manufactures T-Shirts in cotton and synthetic fabrics, sports clothing, and casual wear that appeals to many consumers who are considering buying environmentally friendly clothing.

Finding solutions that would allow the company to continue its advances in the workplace was important. "I had the opportunity to work with the Sunrise team throughout the entire ERP evaluation at American Apparel. They demonstrated the willingness to ‘do whatever it takes’ to earn this business. The Sunrise team, clearly proved their apparel expertise, introduced their Apparel solution, as well as an experienced and credible team to lead the implementation," said Microsoft’s Strategic Engagement Manager, Bill Gerrish.
