The new Arsenal Football Club kits are now on sale for those who want to own a piece of history. The kits, which include shirts, shorts, and socks, pay homage to former Arsenal manager and legend Herbert Chapman. “Herbert Chapman changed and shaped the future of the Club. He had a big influence on the future of Arsenal and that’s something I am aiming for. I think you must try and take the Club to a new level and leave behind a legacy," said Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal's manager.Chapman is credited with making many changes while he was manager including making the football white, using numbered shirts, and successfully changing the name of the Gillespie Road tube station to the Arsenal tube station in 1932. Chapman also played a role in using red and white as Arsenal colours. “I like the new away kit. I understand that it’s a bit of history for the Club because we used to wear white and I always like it when there is a bit of history. It’s always good, something fresh, something new. You know when you have something behind the shirt - you know why we’re playing in white. It’s not just something out of the blue; I can’t wait to wear it," said Club Captain Thierry Henry.
Nike helped design and develop the fabric used for the shirts. Using Nike Drifit fabrics, which are used for other sports clothing including T-Shirts and shorts, to keep moisture off the body makes players feel more comfortable. The fabric helps in the evaporation of sweat by spreading it over a larger area of the clothing instead of allowing it to settle in smaller areas. "The history of Arsenal Football Club is one of the driving factors behind the Club’s success. The pioneering spirit of Herbert Chapman lives on today through the current side and we wanted to create a kit that would help pay tribute to Chapman’s innovations, his influence on football and on Arsenal FC," said the general manager of Nike UK and Ireland, Jim Allaker said.
