Wilson 'Willy' Brown, from Lansing, Michigan, USA, has been homeless for the past ten years. He started collecting cans as a way to help pay for food and lodging. Now, with the help of t-shirt printing company Retroduck, who designed two T-Shirts bearing his likeness, Brown is saving to buy a home of his own and is focusing on getting off the streets. Selling the t-shirts to college students and local citizens, Brown has become a legend around the town. Both designs feature Brown with the slogans, 'Don't be silly, give your cans to Willie,' and 'Pride of East Lansing, doin' that can thing.' T-Shirts and sweatshirts are available. "It's marketing as far as we are concerned. It's nice to know we are putting some bucks in his pocket and some food in his stomach. My heart goes out to Willie, I hope he spends his money responsibly, but I would never tell him how to spend it. It's his money," said Retroduck graphic designer Joe Houghton. He said that the company prints around twenty shirts a week for Brown to sell. Sales have been steady since the shirts were first printed eight months ago.
All of the money made from the sale of the shirts goes to Brown. He sells his shirts at parties and on campus at the Michigan State University. "I'm not looking to be rich or famous. If I can just help one person, that's enough for me. I don't want to be laying in an alley somewhere dead with no one remembering me. I want to be loved, too," said Brown.
