Conquering New Marketplaces

Tuesday 15th of May 2007 01:18:54 AM

Conquering New MarketplacesAfter Tiddiboom, a Swedish t-shirt printing company, launched their web site, the company was unprepared for the amount of interest those in other countries would have in their merchandise. While the company was catering to those in Sweden with t-shirts that boasted Swedish sayings and humour, many in the US were drawn to their web site. But because the shipping prices were very and the humour was not being appreciated by English speaking audiences because of the language barrior, the company decided to launch a web site for those living in the US and other English speaking countries. The web site features designs and humourous sayings that have been translated into English.

"We didn't think Swedish proverbs or lutefisk jokes would attract many buyers in the U.S. except perhaps in Minnesota. So we tailored our T-Shirts to the market. Our designs are more than just clever text. Each shirt has eye-catching graphics that make people check out the T-shirt. Then the clever, humorous phrase makes them laugh,” said CEO Dan Vendel.

Tiddiboom currently offers over 150 designs which are printed on Hanes T-Shirts. They hope to continue adding more designs as the company grows. For now, the company will be using both web sites to sell their shirts. Only time will tell which site will be the most profitable for the company. "We have the Midnight Sun and you don't. Then again, we don't have Disneyland or Peanut Butter Puff cereal, so in a way we're even,” said Vendal when asked about the differences between the web sites and the Swedish and US culture.
