After Tornadoes ripped through the small town of Greensburg, Kanas, USA, many of the residents lost their homes, cars, clothing, and other items needed to survive. In order to help residents begin the healing process, local sportswear company GTM donates 1,500 pieces of clothing, track uniforms, and girls golf Polo Shirts. For those who have not been able to save much clothing from the rubble, new T-Shirts were a welcome sight."This helps so much. The kids need to be together. And you know how much kids love new T-shirts. They'll be so proud to wear them,” said one parent, Nancy Taylor, whose son is on the track team that is scheduled to compete this week. Other clothing including polo shirts, jackets, and sweat shirts were also donated. ‘Greensburg – United. Proud. Strong’ was printed on the White T-Shirts in order to encourage people to keep their spirits up.
“Most people lost all their stuff, so this might be all the clothing they have. It's pretty cool that it says 'Greensburg' on it - shows that we made it through the storm,” said one resident, Eric White. Shirts were given out near the Greensburg High School to a large crowd of people.
President George Bush visited the small town a few hours prior to the arrival of the shirts to survey the damage and meet some of the residents.
When asked why GTM wanted to donate shirts and other clothing, regional manager for GTM Mike Temaat responded, “I'm partial to this town. I grew up in Spearville and have played basketball in this gym. Also, we have about 350 employees, and it seems like everyone had a tie to Greensburg, so it just seemed like an obvious thing to do."
