UK’s Queen Elizabeth will be visiting the US later this week in order to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, which was the first British settlement in the New World. Jamestown is located in the state of Virginia. One hundred people were chosen from a lottery held to stand in the front row when the Queen arrives.Winning a place in this row does not come without stipulations, however. Vulgar or humorous T-Shirts will not be permitted as they may offend the Queen. Winners should represent their state and their country by wearing clothing that is suitable for the occasion.
One of the T-Shirts on the ‘banned list’ are the famous ‘I’m with Stupid’ shirts. They depict the saying with an arrow pointed at the person to the side of them. While these shirts are meant to be funny, those who are planning the Queen’s visit do not want her take them the wrong way. Virginia state governor Tim Kaine said that many people have been planning for the Queen’s trip.
While visiting Virginia, the Queen plans on paying tribute to those who were slain in the Virginia Tech shooting two weeks ago. The Queen will also be spending a few days in Washington DC and will be meeting with President Bush.
Those who are meeting with the Queen should wear a suit and tie, or a collared shirt and pants, skirt suit, or dress and avoid T-Shirts at all costs.
