T-shirts Protect Wearers from the Sun’s Harmful Rays

Sunday 08th of April 2007 02:26:19 AM

T-shirts Protect Wearers from the Sun’s Harmful RaysThe Solar Protective Factory, which was started in the early 1990’s, has sold mostly sun suits for children who have skin related health issues due to prolonged sun exposure. Now the company has launched a new web site that sells sun protective T-Shirts for men, women, and children. The t-shirts are made from specialised cotton fibres to protect skin from sun exposure. “Our SPF® shirt looks like a T-shirt and feels like a T-shirt, but when it comes to blocking the sun’s dangerous UV rays, it’s more like a coat of armour,” said SPF® co-founder, Terry Breese.

In order to make sure shirts will protect people wearing them, the shirts will undergo testing which includes a full spectrum UV test, UVA, and UVB tests. The T-Shirts are also washed over forty times to make sure that the shirts will offer the same amount of protection time and time again. The typical t-shirt has an SPF of 6, but sun protective shirts have an SPF of 40-50. Since the recommended SPF level is 15, sun protective T-Shirts go above and beyond the accepted standards.

It is because over 60,000 people die each year from sun–related cancer worldwide, that these shirts were created by the Sun Protective Factory In order to prevent more deaths, wearing sun screen and sun protective clothing will prevent harmful rays from harming the skin. T-Shirts are among the most popular form of clothing, so developing a line of shirts that help protect people is a good way to help raise awareness and offer protection to people at an early age.

Companies that have incorporated sun protective clothing into their clothing lines include Liz Claiborne, Reebok, and Nike. While this clothing will not completely protect people who are wearing it, their risk of cancer will decrease, which could help save many lives.
