Hoodies for Charity

Thursday 29th of March 2007 11:59:17 PM

Hoodies for CharitySelling Sweatshirts for charity has been paying off for the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). The hospital is being sponsored by one of the teams from the reality show WAGS Boutique, a show featuring the lives of wives and girlfriends of professional footballers. The teams had to open a boutique and find ways to raise money for a charitable cause. Bows Boutique, one of the teams stores, choose GOSH and launched a line of Sweatshirts, vests, and other items.

So far, the response has been great. “It is a prime example of the fashion oriented companies in the print wear industry influencing and facilitating ‘fast fashion’ – a concept in fashion retail whereby the high street is able to react instantly to the fast changing trends with new printed garments,” said Mariusz Stochaj, head of products at Continental Clothing. The company supplies 90% of the clothing that is sold for charity. “A craze has developed for these hoodies and T-shirts, which are selling out every week,” said Stochaj.

In order to keep up with the demand for the Sweatshirts, the company must produce clothing within three days after an order is placed. The shirts are on sale from Thursday to Saturday, then a new order is placed. “It’s about slashing lead times to under a week to react instantly to market trends. People see something on TV and they want it instantly – they don’t want to wait 12 weeks. It’s fast fashion at work,” said Stochaj about their narrow deadlines.

Selling clothing for charity that also happen to be popular right now is no easy feat, but the company seems to be keeping up with the demand. Sweatshirts are also available online if people cannot get to the store fast enough to buy them.
