Designing Clothing for the Environment

Friday 23rd of March 2007 10:52:43 PM

Designing Clothing for the EnvironmentOrganic clothing seems to be the new trend on the runways with many companies and designers showing clothing made from organic cotton and dyed garments that are not dyed using harsh chemicals. E-co Clothing is a new line that sells organic clothing including T-Shirts, career wear, and accessories. With prices that are affordable, many people are making the switch.

But what is organic clothing? T-Shirts and other items that are made using cotton that has not been treated with chemicals before it has been picked or after are considered organic. Many cotton shirts that people buy have been treated to make the cotton softer. E-co has its cotton woven in Japan where natural dyes are used to ensure the garment is truly organic. The mission of the company is a simple one: to make clothing that is comfortable, affordable, and safe for the environment. “E-co Clothing aims to prove that you can wear luxurious and comfortable clothes whilst being good to the environment,” said Steve Prince, designer for the company.

As organic clothing gets more media attention, it is not surprising to see celebrities and others wearing clothing from E-co Clothing and others. “Choice is going to be key in revolutionising consumer’s fashion buying-habits. Our range not only offers choice, but the look and feel of our clothes are so in-line with today’s high street fashions that consumer’s won’t even realise they are buying organic,” said Prince.

Eventually, as this type of clothing becomes more affordable to manufacture and to purchase, organic clothing will be available from many different companies and different clothing lines. In an effort to help protect the environment, manufacturing T-Shirts and other items is a big step for some companies, but one that is worth it.
