The Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs, located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will be raising money by selling T-Shirts and other items. Funds raised will benefit those who require special training in order to learn basic living and working skills to become productive members of society. Children with Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and Autism come to the centre for training and advice. “The sale combines the skill, talent of young artists, and shows the wonderful results that can be achieved by encouraging them. They have a lot of creative potential and these activities boost the children’s morale and achievements,” Isphana Al Khatib, the director of the training centre said.T-Shirts that are being sold in order to raise funds for additional training and also to expand the centre’s building, which currently serves the needs of 220 children. The expansion will allow the centre to accommodate up to 300 children at one time. “The centre charges highly subsidised fees, making fund-raising an essential and continuous task. It is through projects, such as the T-Shirt sale and the generosity of the community at large that sustain a quality and effective training programme for the Special Needs Community of Dubai. Participation of the community at large at the sale will be a big support in raising much needed resources for the Centre,” Al Khatib said.
The centre was started in 1981 and has helped many children over the years from 19 different countries. Children who attend therapy sessions, lectures, and workshops participate in speech therapy, occupational therapy, job training, and education methods that are not found in too many other institutions. Since the centre is privately funded by the government and others, fundraisers like these are a necessary part of the centre’s survival. The sale of T-Shirts should raise funds needed to begin construction of the centre’s expansion.
