In order to satisfy growing customer demand, VGKids, founded by James Marks in 1999, is moving to a larger location in the town of Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA. The new showroom will showcase T-Shirts, posters, hats, CD’s, and other items that people can use in their home or office. While they will maintain their current production space, the new showroom will be a place where customers can place orders or browse through current stock.“Ypsilanti is undergoing a major transformation that we want to be a part of. In our design for the store, we were very careful to keep ourselves from being strictly a service provider - downtown Ypsi needs more stores where you can walk in and buy something. Because we make T-shirts, it seemed a natural step,” said Marks.
Starting the company seven years ago, Marks and his team have gone from creating a few T-Shirts to producing entire lines. Employees get to use their creativity as well in the designing of t-shirts and other items. “We're all coming from an arts background. That gives us more control and more to offer,” said Marks about his employees creative input.
While customers usually bring their own design ideas to VGKids, having a showroom will give the company a chance to show some of their original works as well as other items that people may be interested in buying. Expanding will give the company more exposure and will allow people to purchase different items besides just T-Shirts .
“Over the past seven years, we've grown at such a fast pace, we really needed to limit exposure to keep from getting flooded. We had to stop our ad campaigns because we were growing too fast - it became difficult to keep up. The last few years have been about me learning to be a manager instead of a printer and developing systems that work,” said Marks.
