DJ from Hawaii Launches Clothing Line

Friday 02nd of March 2007 01:09:00 AM

DJ from Hawaii Launches Clothing LineLaunching a clothing line can be difficult, especially on an island like Hawaii. Since there are many shops to compete with, creating a web site is one way to beat the competition. Sam “Da Man” Ambrose, who has a morning radio show, spends the rest of his day designing T-Shirts for his clothing line ‘Tadpole’.

“I just had a cool idea and I thought people would dig it. It was kind of unique, so I figured I’d try it out. I just have lots of ideas in my head and I get a kick out of seeing them come alive. A lot of people have ideas, but the follow-through is the most important thing. If you don’t follow through, what separates you from anybody else on the street?” said Ambrose.

Tadpole currently offers men’s T-Shirts in multiple themes, some of which reflect the surfing culture in Hawaii. The web site is how Ambrose has been making most of his sales. “I’m really excited about the Internet thing, because you can be sleeping and making money. You can wake up in the morning and see that you’ve sold 300 shirts overnight, so I like the whole concept of the Internet: 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year,” said Ambrose.

Even though he would not object to selling his shirts in stores, he feels there is too much competition and since the stores get a piece of the profits, he can make more money by selling T-Shirts online.

Ambrose says he doesn’t want to promote Tadpole on the air during his radio show because he wants the label to take off on its own. “I’m holding back when it comes to promoting Tadpole on the air. I want to just let the clothing line speak for itself and give it a fair shot for people to see it. I’m really selective about when I talk about it, whether I try to get people to wear it or talk about it on the radio,” said Ambrose.
