Convent Raises Money by Selling Sweatshirts

Wednesday 28th of February 2007 10:10:55 PM

Convent Raises Money by Selling SweatshirtsThe Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters of the Mont Grace Convent, located in Louisville, Kentucky, USA needed to raise funds for an addition they wanted to add to the convent. Selling Sweatshirts was not on the top of their list, but when a friend of the convent suggested the idea, they decided to give it a try. So far, the sisters have sold over 2,000 Sweatshirts and are planning on continuing to sell them as long as people want to buy them or until their new addition is complete.

The Sweatshirts come in two colours, grey and pink. “I thought the last thing we’d ever see was people in pink sweatshirts,” said Sister Mary Gemma Robinson, who was hesitant at first to start selling the shirts. But once she got comfortable with the idea, the designs for the shirts were created and soon they were selling. Many people have been interested in buying the sweatshirts because of the colour and the embroidery on the shirts. Shirts are adorned with the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters logo that is placed across the left breast of each shirt.

In addition to adult and child sized Sweatshirts, the sisters are planning on adding mugs, and T-Shirts this spring. Since the new construction will cost about $3 million to complete, the sisters will need to keep selling the sweatshirts and other items. But the sisters don’t seem to mind. “I just hope we don’t get swamped by all the orders. It’s a lot of work,” said Sister Mary Gemma Robinson.

Those who have purchased shirts have been telling others in the community where to buy them. This is how most of the sales have been made so far. The sisters are very pleased with the results.
