Students of the Graphic Arts Club in KauKauna High School, located in Wisconsin, USA, teamed up with other art students to create T-Shirts that show their support for a fellow student who has been stricken with bone cancer. 17-year-old Michael Ederer, who plays football for the school, enjoys fishing, and runs track and field, does not feel like a victim. He intends on getting well enough to play sports this spring. The students have sold five hundred T-Shirts so far and plan on selling them at school events and sports competitions. The shirts depict two fists on the front with the words, ‘Coming Together to Fight Cancer’ underneath. The shirts will sell for ten dollars a piece.
T-Shirts will also be given away as prizes for basketball shooting competitions and other charity events. “We’re very glad to see how the community is helping and supporting him”, said Mollie Tennessen, a junior at the high school.
Other items including buttons and hair that people have donated after having it shaved off to show support for Ederer. The hair will be raffled off and the proceeds will be given to the family so they can pay for medical bills and other expenses.
Support for Ederer has been great. Even those who don’t know him well are trying to find ways to help the family and give them their support. “It’s amazing how you get cards from people you don’t even know. They’re really behind him,” said Chris Ederer, of the support her son and the family have received.
In addition to selling T-Shirts, other events have been planned to help Ederer through this tough time in his life.
