Save Money by Recycling Old T-shirts

Wednesday 21st of February 2007 11:17:32 PM

Save Money by Recycling Old T-shirtsThere are many ways to alter the appearance of old t-shirts, Polo Shirts, and Sweatshirts by cutting them, painting them, or changing their colour. It is very easy to do and many times, all a person will need is a pair of scissors and a steady hand. Altering t-shirts to turn them into tank tops or muscle shirts is simply a matter of cutting off the sleeves. Other changes may require tools in addition to the scissors.

Painting or creating designs on T-Shirts is also easy, but may take more time than cutting them. Buying stencils may make the designs seem more professional and produce cleaner lines than if they were done by hand. T-shirts can be decorated using fabric paint, spray paint, charcoal, or other items that will not fade away after being washed. The design possibilities are endless.

When designing T-Shirts, creating the design on paper first to make sure that is it what is desired. Designs can be altered at any time except when it is placed on to the t-shirt. Making sure the design is the right size and shape is important for overall look of the shirt.

Changing the colour of the t-shirts will require the use of dye that can be purchased at fabric or hobby shops. A pair of gloves may also be necessary as the dye can discolour the hands of those who are using it. Follow the directions to learn more about dyeing t-shirts. Cotton t-shirts are the easiest to dye.

Creating original T-Shirts does not have to cost too much money. They can be turned into tank tops, mid-drif tops, halter tops, and more. Being creative and not worrying about making mistakes are ways that old t-shirts can be turned into new clothing.
