Streetwear, which includes T-Shirts, sweatshirts, and other causal clothing, has become very popular these days with people of all ages in many parts of the world. This is because many of the items are easy to find, inexpensive, and easy to wear. While there are many small boutiques that cater to this clothing movement, the items sold inside can be expensive. But for those who want a cutting edge look, these are the places to find it.One fashion designer, Jeremy Dean, who lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, who has been a designer for Urban Outfitters, started his own streetwear label, Double Edge Sword, last month. His goal is to design original T-Shirts that are of better quality than what has been produced in the last few years.
By combining t-shirt styles from different decades, Dean has been able to use colour, fabric, design, and texture in a way that is different from his competition. Getting to this point in his career has helped how his designs are created. It took about 13 years to get to the point where I can do this and feel okay about what I'm putting out there. I'm not second-guessing myself constantly,” said Dean.
For now, Dean will concentrate on selling his T-Shirts locally. Instead of focusing on selling mass reproductions of his shirts, he will manufacture enough to meet the demand of local customers. This is because he wants the label to stand for quality and originality.
“We want this brand to be almost anti-streetwear—not worrying about blogs or sales or making the all-over print, thousand-colour model. This is for the people who are into cool stuff because they like it, not because someone told them to like it,” said Mason Warner, who owns WTHN, where Dean’s shirts are sold.
