T-shirt Prohibits Man from Flying

Monday 12th of February 2007 06:05:20 PM

T-shirt Prohibits Man from FlyingWearing T-Shirts with the image of United States president George Bush with a caption that read, “World’s # 1 Terrorist”, Allen Jasson was denied entry onto a Qantas flight from Melbourne, Australia to London, England where he lives. This is the third time that Jasson was asked to remove the shirt during his trip.

A London airport security guard asked Jasson to remove the shirt on December 2 when Jasson was on his way to Australia. During a connecting flight, Jasson was again asked to remove the shirt.

Even though on his return trip, Jasson made it passed security wearing the shirt, he was asked by the gate manager to take it off. This time, Jasson refused, and he was not allowed to fly. Not being able to return to London could jeopardise his application for citizenship in England, but he does not care. He will stay in Australia until he receives an apology from Qantas and money for the costs incurred from missed flights.

Said Jasson, “It's game on, Qantas. They are going to fly me home wearing this T-shirt. I have made up my mind that I would rather stand up for the principle of free speech.” Jasson insists that his actions are not for attention purposes. He feels he should be allowed to wear the T-Shirts if he wants.

“Whether made verbally or on a T-shirt, comments with the potential to offend other customers or threaten the security of a Qantas group aircraft will not be tolerated,” said a spokesperson from Qantas airlines.

Jasson is an anti-war supporter who is currently living in London. He was visiting his daughter in Australia and will be staying with her until this matter has been resolved.
