Big Man on the Basketball Court

Tuesday 06th of February 2007 07:28:13 PM

Big Man on the Basketball CourtEven though professional basketball players are supposed to by tall, some players exceed this expectation by a long shot. Even though the game of basketball requires more than just height, being tall will never hurt a person’s career aspirations.

Sun Ming Ming, the largest person ever to play basketball, is 7’9. The twenty-three year old from China came to the United States almost two years ago with dreams of playing for the National Basketball Association (NBA). His dream was set aside last year when he underwent surgery on his pituitary gland, which is responsible, in part, to his large size.

The surgery was a success and Sun is working harder than ever to get back into shape so he can play the game he loves.

The Maryland Nighthawks of the American Basketball Association (ABA), located Maryland, USA has signed Sun to play for them in their upcoming season. Even though the ABA is relatively new, players like Sun will be able to show off their skills and become a valuable player to their team as well as an audience favourite.

When the team signed Sun on to play for them, he was given team Sweatshirts to wear. Even though the Sweatshirts were an XXXXXXL, Sun complained that the shirt did not fit properly.

Sweatshirts for Sun will have to be custom made in order to fit his three-hundred and seventy pound frame.

Sun has been given the number seventy-nine because of his height. To compare him to other famously tall basketball players, Shaq O’Neill, who plays for Miami Heat, is only 7’1.
