The Eastern Shore in Delaware is always busy with people surfing and skateboarding wearing their Sweatshirts, more commonly known as hoodies. Many of the big names in the surfing and skateboarding fashion industry are Quicksilver and Billabong. The manager of Coconut Kids Tamara Ulmer said, "They relate to surfing and we're a surfing community. It all just fits in," their best selling item is the Quicksilver Sweatshirts. Another good selling brand is Volcom, who are based in California; they have a philosophy of “youth against establishment.” The designs on the Sweatshirts reflect the skating world created by artists working for Volcom. The manager for K-coast Courtney McCarraher said about the Sweatshirts, “They are fresh, new and the designs are edgier than Roxy and Billabong, they are more classic.”
Many consumers of Sweatshirts prefer the new zip up styles of hoodies rather than the over the head versions. The manager of the shop Quiet Storm in Rehoboth Beach, Karen Collins, said "The zip-ups are the No. 1 seller," and added "Pull-overs just aren't as strong the past couple of years." The company Roxy and Element have created new Sweatshirts that have a Sherpa lining inside them, so that these items of clothing can also be used as a jacket as well as a hoodie. Parents no longer need to worry about their children being cold while out surfing or skateboarding. Sweatshirts are now becoming very fashionable.
