Daniel Nance is planning a trip to climb the 19,340 meter high Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. Daniel Nance and a team of men that attend his church the Central Baptist Church in Newnan, GA, will be going to Tanzania and Kenya to carry out volunteer work as well as climbing the peak. Whilst in Africa they will be working in a Kenyan orphanage. Daniel Nance is the church's youth and congregational care minister and already tried climbing Mount Kilimanjaro but unfortunately became afflicted with the altitude condition. Professional guides will also be accompanying the group of men who are aged between sixteen and forty-nine. Each man is paying for his trip, which costs between $750 and $2000, and this will be done through local fund raising. The church is planning to organise a charity road race and sell T-Shirts to raise additional funds towards the cause.
The raised funds from the charity road race and the T-Shirts will be donated to Rivers of the World which is an organization (non-profit) that helps people living around river-basin areas worldwide to provide developmental assistance, help with education and medical assistance to the people living there. The men have already taken several backpacking trips to help prepare for the expedition. “If I do make it to the top, that's great," Mike Summer said. "If I don't, it's still going to be a great trip for me. I'm not going to take any risks or try to be the hero. Part of the fun is just in doing it. If you don't reach the goal, that doesn't mean the trip wasn't a success." There is also a father and son going on the trip too which gives good opportunities for bonding as well as the missionary work.
