A man who was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Hodgkin’s lymphoma decided to start a T-Shirt design business. This decision came about because Chad McComsey from Lampeter felt that he needed to focus on something positive and that he needed extra income to help him pay for his treatment. He had often dreamed about starting a T-Shirt business but the cost of his treatment and the shock of the diagnosis kick-started him into pursuing this dream. Formerly a graphic designer, Chad McComsey's first T-Shirt was designed with a drawing imprinted onto the shirt with a picture of The Iron Pillar of Delhi in India as well as the words “Endure“. McComsey also incorporated his personal logo of a bull. On the back of the shirt is a transcription reading “The Iron Pillar of Delhi, India stands 71/4 meters high and is 40 centimetres in diameter. Made from a solid shaft of iron, it has been exposed to the elements with minimal corrosion. Dating back to around 400 A.D., it still stands.”
This shirt is now sold out but he used the money from the sales of it towards his next creation, which was named ‘Flight’ and became his most popular t-shirt. This design is of red wings over the front of the shirt with a bull in the centre and on the back the shirt reads “Endure .06” and there are small storks flying around the words. His latest creation is formed around the Great Mamamuszi Oak of Bialowieza Primaeval Forest in Belarus. He is selling the T-Shirts through his website on myspace.com and his own site http://www.endureonline.com. His friends and family also help promote his shirts through flyers and word of mouth. He says he hasn't earned enough money yet from his sales to help towards his treatment but the business is helping him keep his mind busy and motivated. At the moment, it looks like he has beaten his cancer but there are still three doses of chemotherapy and one of radiation to go.
